Mesnes Park - Bandstand

Built c.1892. Grade II Listed

The Bandstand is a ten sided No. 3 model produced by George Smith and Sons’ Sun Foundry in Glasgow; one of only two remaining models of this type, and the only remaining model of its size.

The structure was in reasonable condition, however as with the Pavilion much historical detail had been lost over the decades, and the original highly decorative cast iron cupola and copper dome had been replaced with a fibreglass imitation.  Alongside the restoration of the Pavilion cast iron elements, the entire Bandstand superstructure was dismantled and restored off site.  Where required, new components were created to replace lost or decayed originals.  A colour scheme was developed for the Bandstand to complement the palette of colours selected for the Pavilion.
